Animorphs Orca Whale Puppet

This is  a finger puppet of an Orca whale I made.

A Week in The Woods

One book I recently read is A Week in the Woods by Andrew Clements.  The book is about a boy named Mark.  His parents are really rich and have almost half a billion dollars.  Since they are always out of town, they hire a couple to look after Mark while they are away.  Mark's family keeps moving from home to home to home.  But because his parents are so rich they don`t move anything.  They just buy new furniture for their next house.  In the book, Mark moves to New Hampshire.  His new house has a forest in its backyard and an awesome view of the White Mountains.  There is a lot of snow too.

Mark didn't want to move at all so he acts bad in school.  His science teacher Mr. Maxwell thinks Mark is just a slacker and a kid who doesn't care at all about school.  When Mr. Maxwell tells Mark about an event called "A Week in the Woods," Mark acts like he doesn't want to go at all.

In "A Week in the Woods," all the 5th graders spend a week in a forest for camping.  After a while Mark feels bad about being bad in school so he tries to start acting good.  But Mr. Maxwell has had enough and ignores him.  When "A Week in the Woods" finally begins, Mark gets suspended and
he runs away in the woods.  Read this story to find out what happens next.

Animorphs Puppet

Below is a puppet I made of Elfangor. Elfangor is the alien who gave the 5 kids the power to turn into animals.

Diorama - Animorphs

This is a diorama I made.  It is the part when the Animorphs smash into the ship as Orca whales.

Animorphs: The Invasion - Fantasy

Animorphs Book #1

I read this book called "The invasion." Its the 1st book in the Animorph series. In it, a kid named Jake and his friends, Rachel (his cousin), Marco (his best friend), Tobias (a kid who Jake saved from some bullies), and Cassie (Rachel's best friend). One day they met altogether and walked home. On the way they saw some thing in the sky fall. They checked it out. But when they saw an alien come out of the spaceship, they got totally freaked out. The alien claimed his name was Elfangor. He told them that some gray slugs called Yeerks go into a living things' body and take control of them. Humans who have Yeerks in them are called Human Controllers. He got out a blue box and told all 5 of the kids to touch each side of it. They all did. After that Elfangor told them that they now can turn into anything they touch. But they cannot stay in animal morph for more than 2 hours. Then Elfangor was eaten by a creature after the five kids hid. Will they be caught? Will they die saving people from Yeerks? Read this book to see what happens next.

Animorphs: The Mutation - Fantasy

I recently read a book called "The Mutation." It is the 36th book in the Animorph series by K.A. Applegate.
In it the Animorphs(a group of kids with the power to turn into any animal they can touch) find out that their arch enemy, Visser 3, is trying to make a huge ship/submarine to reach the bottom of the ocean.  Visser 3 is trying to reach a ship with technology so advanced that with it he would be able to destroy Earth.  The Animorphs all turn into into huge Orca whales to stop him.  They all just keep on ramming into the ship to try to destroy it.  After they think they destroyed it they see some creatures taking the ship away.  They follow the ship because they want to make sure it is destroyed.  They find a huge cavern filled with old ships the underwater civilization have collected and preserved. Eventually they get captured while one of the Animorphs gets separated from them.   One of their friends saves them and they try to get on the ship to escape and after that to destroy it.  They don't know if Visser 3 is still on the ship but take that chance.
Read this book to find out what happens next!

This book is fantasy because there is no such thing as people who can turn into animals.

Smart Dog - An Awesome Book

I don't know how many times I have read "Smart Dog" by Vivian Vande Velde.  I've read it way too many times to count.  In this book, Amy meets a dog, Sherlock, who can talk.  Because the university is trying to kill Sherlock, the dog comes to Amy for help.  It's very difficult to keep things secret, but Amy is determined to help out Sherlock who becomes her very good friend.

Throughout the story, Amy learns many lessons about friends and helping others out.  What I really like about the book, though, is that it's really funny. The author makes the simplest conversations sound funny and realistic at the same time.  I often find myself laughing out loud while I read the book, even if I've already read it many times before.

Whether you enjoy reading books about animals or not, I'm sure you'll love this book.  I don't even like dogs, but I love "Smart Dog."  Full of suspense and humor, this book deserves your attention.

Charlotte's Web

Charlotte's Web was a good story. It's about a pig whose friends try to save him from being killed. Do they succeed? You'll have to find out by reading the story.

What I disliked about the story was that Charlotte died. It was sad because she was kind of the main character of the story. That's the only thing I don't like about the story.

Magic Tree House - The Knight at Dawn

Magic Tree House #2  The Knight at Dawn

In the story, Jack and Annie are the main characters. They find a mysterious tree house that is filled with books.  So,they pick a book and go to the land of knights and castles. The story might have been different if Annie hadn't opened the book of knights and castles.  I liked the story because it was entertaining.

Magic Tree House - Thanksgiving on Thursday

Magic Tree House #27 - Thanksgiving on Thursday

Jack and Annie go to Massachusetts in the first Thanksgiving. There they meet Squanto, and Priscilla.  Before the feast Jack accidentally dropped the turkey. I liked the story because it was fun to read and entertaining.

Make-Believe in Magic Tree House

Magic Tree House #6 - Afternoon on the Amazon

Jack and Annie are on a mission to find the second M thing.  The story might be different if they never found the open book. Then they will not be able to go on that mission. The story is make believe because a tree house can't travel in time.

Midnight on the Moon

Magic Tree House #8 - Midnight on the Moon

The magic tree house takes Jack and Annie to the moon to look for the last M thing to break the spell. The story might have been different if they hadn't left the moon base. They would have broken the spell at that very moment. The story is make believe because people can't cast or break spells.

Puppet of Wilbur in Charlotte's Web

Below there is a puppet of Wilbur the pig in the story I read. In the story Wilbur's friends are trying to save Wilbur's life. Wilbur is the main character. So I made a paper puppet of Wilbur.

Charlotte's Web - An Animal Book

In the story the main character is a pig so in the winter they would kill it for pork. So the whole story is about the farm animals trying to save the pig from being killed.

If the animal was a cat, the farmers wouldn't kill it. There would be a whole different story. So in this story if the animal was different the whole story would change.

Magic Tree House #20 - Dingoes at Dinnertime

Magic Tree House #20 Dingoes at dinnertime

JJack and Annie travel to Australia just  before dinner.  When they get there, they find a koala, kookaburra, and mother kangaroo.  Suddenly,a pack of dingoes surround the mother kangaroo. Luckily, she gets away, leaving the joey behind.  Now Jack and Annie face a wildfire. Will they be able to get to safety?

Animorphs - The Pretender

My favorite scene in this book is when Tobias figures out that his father is Elfangor.  It was pretty surprising.

The Chocolate Touch - Money Turns to Chocolate

Below is a scene that happened in the story "The Chocolate Touch." It is when the boy's friend shows him her birthday present, a coin. The girl tells him to bite it so he knows that the coin is real. He bites it and it turns into chocolate. The girl is so sad that it is almost the end of their friendship.  Read the book to find out more.

The Pretender - A Fantasy Story

Animorphs - The Pretender - Fantasy
By K.A. Applegate

This story was amazing. Its about an animorph, someone who can turn into animals. His name is Tobias. His only family members are an aunt and an uncle, and he stayed in a morph for too long. So he is now an eagle forever. Soon he hears someone say that he is his long lost cousin. But really the person who said he was his cousin is really the bad guy. But Tobias doesn't know that. Read this story to find out what happens next.

This story is fantasy because people cannot turn into animals. Also there are no aliens in real life. Those are some examples of fantasy in this awesome book.

The Chocolate Touch - A Fantasy Story

"The Chocolate Touch" by Patrick Skene Catling is a good story. It is about a boy who eats a lot of chocolate and never shares with anyone. One day he has dots on his nose and goes to the doctor. The doctor says not to eat any more candy. The next day the boy goes to a candy store and buys a candy. That night he eats it and everything his lips touch becomes chocolate. One day he kisses his mom and she turns into chocolate.
Then the boy learns a lesson. Read the book to find out how the boy solves his problem.

This story is, of course, make-believe. The things that are make-believe are that the candy store  keeps appearing and disappearing, his mom turns into chocolate, everything his lips touch become chocolate, and you can't bite coin. Those are most of the make-believe things in the story, but not all of them. Read the book to get more descriptions and find out what happens.

Matilda - Girl Genius

I love to read books about kid geniuses and the book "Matilda" by Roald Dahl is one of my favorites.  The funny thing is that I watched the Matilda movie first.  Watching the movie is what actually got me excited to read the book.  I had enjoyed the movie and was interested in finding out which parts were different from what was written in the book.

Even though the basic storyline was the same, I felt like I was reading something new as I read "Matilda."  It was cool to read about Matilda's experiences and about her special powers.  I liked reading about a super smart kid, and I read the book a few more times after that.

I actually didn't read the book in a long time, and now that I am remembering how much I enjoyed it, I am thinking about reading it again.  If you haven't read the book, you definitely should consider reading it.

Frindle - A Story About an Awesome Kid

When I first starting reading the book "Frindle," I couldn't put it down.  Ever since that day in fifth grade, I have been frequently rereading the book, never getting bored of it.  I love the book because the author Andrew Clements describes a young boy who is able to change the world.  By paying attention to the things that go on around him, the main character is able to develop a new word and, before long, people all over the world are using the word.

In his book, Andrew Clements shows that kids can make a difference.  Jack is just in fifth grade, but he didn't think he was too young to cause changes all over the world.  Because of his confidence and support from his friends and parents, Jack showed that he could be an awesome kid.

Something else I really like about the story is how it ends with Mrs. Granger.  I don't remember if I was surprised or not the first time I read the book, but I do know that I enjoy the end a lot.  Of course, I can't tell you what happens.  You'll have to read it!
